Hello and Welcome!
Today, I wanted to share how I store my colored pencil collection.
I have quite a collection of pencils and they were either in their metal tins or in pencil cases. It was difficult to see all my colors even though I had a swatch book. I spent some time searching for a storage unit that looked nice and allowed me to layout all my pencils. On the left is my Intense and I have some of the Spectrum Noir colored pencils not yet in any storage.
I found these storage units on Amazon. They are used for pastels but the pencils fit in nicely. The three drawer units can hold up to 120 pencils and the four drawer units can hold up to 150 pencils with some room to spare. They are made of wood and have a natural finish. There are handles on the front and dividers inside. The dividers are not removable. There are pieces of wood trim on top that allow the units to stack on top of each other. Currently, I have three of the three drawer units and one of the four drawer units.
The bottom unit holds my Prismacolor colored pencils. I have the 150 set. I had half of the bottom drawer left so I also stored my Koh-Noor Tri-tone pencils as well.
I have extra erasers and pencil sharpeners in the bottom drawers as well.
The next unit has my Caran D’ache Luminance colored pencils. These were very expensive so I only purchased the 36 count. The bottom drawer in the three drawer unit doesn’t have the dividers so all the pencils lay out in that drawer.
Above that is my Bruynzell Sakura colored pencils. These are from Holland and are a bit pricey. I was able to find a set of 72 off of Amazon that wasn’t too bad.
In the next unit are my Faber Castell pencils. I have the 120 collection of the poloychromos pencils. I love these pencils. I purchased my set from Amazon when they were 50% off the retail price. I love how they look in these drawers. The rainbow of color.
Finally, I have my Derwent Artist colored pencils in the top unit. I have the 120 set that came in the wooden box. I contemplated wether I should keep them in the wooden box but ended up using the same storage as the rest. I am glad I did. I still have the wooden box because it is a beautiful box but like that all my pencils are together.
Below are the list of items that I had purchased from Amazon in case you are interested in the storage units or the pencils.
