My Thyroid Protocol Part II
Now that I have been on natural thyroid hormone for the past two months I am having great results. Without changing my diet (and I need to), I lost 10 pounds. Just because I switched to the natural hormone.
All natural thyroid hormone comes from pig thyroid. What is interesting about it is that it contains both T4 and T3, great for someone who doesn’t have the ability to make any Ts. But it also contains two hormones that doctors are not sure what they do. They are T1 and T2. So, by taking a natural hormone, I am getting all the Ts I would be getting if I had my own.
Another part of my therapy is a specific set of vitamins. I am on a Thyroid supplement that contains Iodine and Selenium. It is a common misperception is that we get iodine in our diet. Since we have cut out much of the salt in our diet and iodine is no longer in flour, we are becoming increasingly iodine deficient.
I am also on a vitamin B complex, a vitamin D, essential acids and a vitamin for my adrenal gland. Turns out, in the high stress world we live in today, adrenal failure is a chronic issue.
Finally, my diet changes. I have had to cut out all my sugar, which I have mostly done. I am to cut out most of my carbs but I have only managed to cut out my sugar. Still, I am getting there.
I no longer have those terrible side effects like massive headaches, tingling in my lips and sore and aching muscles. I can now enjoy long walks which was very difficult when on the synthetic hormone. I don’t feel as depressed anymore and feel that there is hope that I will lose weight and get healthy again.
